Tears and Nails
by Henry Lauer
I hurl myself onto the street
Heat in my heart yet also cold.
The one I need has cast me off
The one I love told me fuck off.
And in the gutter I do fall
Hatred and sadness engulf my all.
Angrily I demand "What have I done?"
"We had so much! I need her love!"
"What horror has caused our love to fail?"
"What, indeed, was the final nail?"
So I flee into the night
My face a mask of fear and hate.
So frenzied are my angered shouts
The sound of her tears falling I don't pick out.
